The Maasai Relief and Recovery Initiative (MRRI) is a visionary effort by The Maasai Trust to bring critical relief and sustainable recovery to the Maasai and Samburu people in Southern Kajiado, Narok, and Samburu Counties as well as North Tanzania.
Faced with unprecedented challenges due to severe droughts and resource scarcity, MRRI aims to address vital needs through community assessment, development of water infrastructure, emergency relief provision, education and and the empowerment of local communities. With a focus on immediate and long-term solutions, MRRI is a testament to our commitment to the Maasai’s well-being and resilience.
In the heart of Maasai lands, the Community Health Improvement Program (CHIPS) is launched as part of the Maasai Rapid Recovery Initiative (MRRI) to address critical health challenges facing infants, children, and pregnant mothers. By focusing on Nutrition, Immunization, Hygiene Education, and Primary Health Care, CHIPS aims to build a foundation for a healthier Maasai future. With phased implementation ensuring focused attention to each essential need, we’re set to make a lasting impact on the well-being of the Maasai communities.
The Maasai Literacy and Education for Everyone Program (MLEEP) is a vital initiative under our broader mission to transform Maasai communities through education. Aimed at uplifting literacy rates and overall well-being, MLEEP brings together essential services like health programs, women’s empowerment, and infrastructure development, ensuring a brighter future for the Maasai.
Starting with community-driven needs assessment, we tailor educational programs to the Maasai’s unique cultural context. By partnering with local entities and utilizing innovative teaching methods, MLEEP focuses on making education accessible and relevant, especially to underserved children.
In the midst of the “Drought of the Burning Sun,” the most severe drought in 70 years, The Maasai Trust presents The Maasai Water Project. This initiative is our pledge to combat the critical water scarcity that threatens the very existence of the Maasai and Samburu people. With over 120,000 lives claimed by this drought, the need for clean, accessible water has never been more urgent. Through constructing wells and boreholes, we’re not just delivering water; we’re providing a lifeline to communities, enabling education for girls, and revitalizing livelihoods for thousands.
In response to the devastating “Drought of the Burning Sun,” the Maasai Relief and Recovery Initiative (MRRI), powered by the Maasai Trust, introduces the “Flex Subsistence Farm System.” This pioneering program merges agricultural production with goat breeding, aiming to secure food sources, enhance nutrition, and restore the livelihoods of the Maasai and Samburu communities. By fostering resilience, reducing dependency on aid, and respecting cultural traditions, we’re committed to revitalizing these communities through sustainable practices. Discover how we’re making a difference and how you can support our cause.
